The core gameplay of Bloons TD 6 is similar to the other games in the Bloons Tower Defense series. Like the other games in the series, Bloons TD 6 is a tower defense game.
bloons TD 6 uses 3D graphics in its gameplay, but plays mainly in 2D perspective.In Bloons TD 6, the player creates a defense consisting of towers (called "monkeys" in the game) to prevent enemy balloons (called "balloons" in the game) from reaching the exit. Balloons are generated in different waves, separated by "wheels", and will travel along one or more specified paths to their intended exit. Each round usually consists of a predetermined set of balloons, which subsequently generate balloons with special properties and behaviors that may have weaknesses in certain defenses.
Balloon blasts earn money that can be used to purchase additional towers or upgrade existing towers to strengthen defenses. Each type of tower and its upgrades plays a different role in the defense and has mainly an offensive role. Most towers can affect Bloons by directly damaging them, slowing them down, or otherwise harming them, while some towers support other towers or generate income to boost defenses.
Maps are chosen by the player, starting with the less difficult maps. Completing the game on a map unlocks a harder map. Different game modes can be played, each with different rules.Bloons TD 6 adds additional gameplay mechanics not found in previous games. Special types of towers called "heroes" are automatically upgraded once placed, which makes them more powerful as the game progresses, but players can only place one selected hero per game. Some maps contain obstacles that prevent many towers from seeing or attacking them.
