Fieldrunners 2 offers 25 levels with 4 different areas and backgrounds. Players choose up to 6 weapons and 3 consumables at the start of each level. fieldrunners 2 also offers players 3 difficulty levels, casual mode, tough mode and hero mode. Just like any other tower defense game, players then select a tower and slap it on the map, wait for enemies to start falling, and earn more cash to build more towers.

When the number of escaped enemies reaches 20, the player loses the game. If the player wins, the game will give the player 1 star (casual mode), 2 stars (tough mode), or 3 stars (hero mode). 

Players can choose to continue playing in Endless Mode after passing each level. Whether the player passes the level or not, the game will give the player a certain amount of gold coins based on the player's performance. Fieldrunners 2 offers 25 types of weapons and 5 types of items. Each of them has different ranges, effects and weaknesses.Fieldrunners 2 has some major improvements over its predecessor. 3 times more towers and enemies are available in Fieldrunners 2. The game supports iPhone, iPod touch and iPad systems (including the latest iPhone and iPad with Retina display). 

One of the big improvements is the addition of path markers. In the original game, a constant stream of wildcats would follow a very specific path. They would travel almost straight until they hit something. In Fieldrunners 2, small soldiers, tanks, and motorcycles will move more realistically across the battlefield, constantly changing their paths depending on where the player places the towers. They will no longer walk directly into the center of a flamethrower pit.

Maps,Most of the 25 levels are traditional tower defense style affairs where players frantically build towers to defend against enemy forces. The main map tasks players with surviving 60 or 70 waves and limiting the number of escaped enemies to 20. However, some maps have players guarding multiple routes, while others cleverly have players building death mazes with their towers. There are sudden death levels, where players must survive an endless parade of bad guys for a certain amount of time, and even puzzle maps that task players with guiding enemies through things like laser obstacles on open fields.
